FOLLOW THESE 5 TIPS TO IMPROVE YOUR TENNIS SWING

  |     |   Uncategorized

we’re sure residents of Savannah, Georgia apartments already know this. However, if you don’t actually know how to swing your tennis racket in the correct form, practice isn’t going to help. What will help is knowing tips for improving your swing before you begin practicing.

KNOW THE SWINGS

Five main swings exist, and you should know what they are: backhand, forehand, overhead, serve and volley. If you’re unsure on how to perform any of them, search the Internet and find a video from a professional. You may want to watch repeatedly and stop periodically to learn each step of the swing.

SIMPLE PROVIDES THE MOST POWER

Don’t try to complicate the process with additional motions and mixing it with other swings, keep it simple. This will provide the most power in your stroke. You should pivot with your outside foot and turn your shoulders sideways. With your shoulders and arms, move the racket back. Next, push off with your outside leg, rotate your body toward the net, drop your racket down and swing forward. Once you make contact, follow through in a smooth motion by extending in the direction you hit and bringing the racket back across your body. You should now be in the position where you started.

YOUR NON-DOMINANT HAND MATTERS

Just because your non-dominant hand isn’t in control of swinging, doesn’t mean it isn’t important. It should work to aid the dominate hand. You should hold the racket around its throat with your non-dominant hand in order to prepare your shoulders.

DON’T HIT TOO HARD

You don’t want to hit too hard. You’ll defeat the purpose. Ultimately, you want to aim toward the opposite corner of the court or straight down the court without hitting the fence.

BE AN EARLY BIRD

You can’t prepare for the ball too early. Shoulders need to be turned and so do your hips before the ball bounces on your side. Make sure you have your racket back.
